Resources
The EV Battery Recovery program offers resources and guidance documents intended to educate and prioritize EV battery safety. These guidelines complement the program to ensure all eligible electrified vehicle batteries are properly managed and recovered upon request.
Although these guides offer valuable information, it is the responsibility of every individual handling EV batteries to understand and comply with all applicable laws and regulations.
Guides
There are multiple regulators at both the Federal and Provincial levels who set and enforce rules and requirements for the management of EV batteries. Learn more about the different transportation regulations and classifications.
This document provides guidance for Municipalities on what to do if an Electric Vehicle (EV) Battery arrives at a waste transfer facility or collection site. Municipalities may want to develop policies that screen EV batteries before they are allowed on-site and establish an appropriate storage location that meets all local requirements.

As electric vehicle adoption increases across Canada, managing end-of-life EV batteries safely and responsibly is becoming increasingly important. The EV Battery Recovery™ program, created and funded by participating vehicle manufacturers, provides Canada’s first national solution for the collection, transportation, and management of eligible end-of-life EV batteries.
Operated by Call2Recycle Canada, the program supports battery holders, including dismantlers, recyclers, repair shops, dealers, and fleet operators, by connecting them with qualified service providers that manage packaging, logistics, transportation, and compliant end-of-life processing. Batteries collected through the program are directed toward repurposing, remanufacturing, or recycling, ensuring they are responsibly managed and never landfilled.
Designed to complement existing manufacturer warranty, recall, and resale pathways, the EV Battery Recovery™ program fills a critical gap for low-value or hard-to-manage batteries while supporting Canada’s growing circular EV economy.
