A Canadian, industry-led program dedicated to the responsible recovery and management of eligible end-of-life batteries from electric vehicles (EVs) across Canada produced by participating auto manufacturers.
The EV Battery Recovery Program is a first-of-its kind initiative in North America. Available across Canada and funded by leading vehicle manufacturers, it ensures the responsible collection, transportation, and management of eligible electric vehicle (EV) batteries at end-of-life.
Originally launched in Quebec in 2023, the program is now available across Canada, offering auto dismantlers, recyclers, shredders, independent garages, independent dealerships, fleet operators, and individual EV owners a credible recovery solution on behalf of participating auto manufacturers.
Recovered batteries are repurposed, remanufactured, or recycled, reducing waste, recovering scarce resources, and reducing environmental impact.
In Canada, electric vehicle manufacturers have established processes to recover EV batteries under warranty, subject to recall, or designated for remanufacturing, and the vehicle dismantling and recycling industry has systems in place for removing and reselling EV batteries or providing them to other processors.
The EV Battery Recovery™ Program is designed to complement these existing practices, ensuring that all eligible EV batteries are responsibly managed.
